Praying to God 101

Praying to God 101

The other day, a good friend of my exclaimed to my that she was ready to start praying but confessed that she did not have a clue about how to pray. I told her that it wasn’t that long ago that I had confessed the same thing.

This is what someone told me and it has really been a blessing. I hope that it might help someone else out there also.

Prayer is just talking to God. It is probably the most important thing you can do. But it is also the easiest thing to do. You can talk to God anytime and anywhere. You can pray in the car, in your bed, while you’re washing dishes, in the department store, on your knees, on your feet, with hands folded or arms raised.

You should have a special time that you reserve for God but you can also talk to God all day long. If you see someone who is hurting you can just say, “God, please bless that person”. Or if you hear an ambulance siren you might say, “Lord please help that person and help the doctors to have wisdom.” Or if something good happens to you, be thankful and say, “Thank you Lord”.

It is habit you have to develop at first. I like to try to remember to say, “Good morning Lord.” as soon as I wake up because God has been there with me all night watching me sleep. It would be rude not to say something to Him when I first awake. Put a sticky note on your alarm clock to remind yourself at first.

Sometimes I just visualize Jesus sitting next to me in the car and I try to talk to Him just like I would any other friend. Jenny and I like to pray first thing in the morning. It’s so easy to forget though especially when you’re running late or something. But I find that if I don’t take the time to pray first thing, that in a matter of minutes I become consumed by all the daily chores pulling at me and before you know it, you’re lost in the things of the world again.

He longs to hear from us. That is why He created us.

Why Religions are Bad

Why Religions Are Bad

Religions are bad. Sure, they all mean well but they are all basically all about getting a reward for living a certain way. They are all about behavior. They are all about rules. If you just follow the rules and be good enough you will get the reward at the end of your life. Don’t steal… don’t kill… etc… What’s wrong with that you say?

Well, most religions have rules about what you can do and not do and it is good to have rules about what is right and what is wrong. But religions are bad when people get so caught up in the rules that they lose their compassion for others.

That’s what Jesus ran into with the Pharisees. When he healed someone on the Sabbath, the Pharisees jumped all over Jesus for breaking a rule about working on a day of rest. Jesus certainly wasn’t about following the rules. He broke them every chance he got. Jesus touched the lepers. They had a rule against that. Jesus consorted with prostitutes and tax collectors. No self respecting religious leader of the time would have done that. Jesus not only hung out with the “low lifes” but he even seems to condone their behavior. This was certainly not acceptable for someone who was supposed to be a Rabbi and some even said he was the Messiah.

I think Jesus did this stuff on purpose just to get a rise out of the religious leaders of the time. He was trying to teach them that it wasn’t about the rules. It’s about the heart. It’s about love. God is love.

And God loved us so much that he left Heaven to come down to earth and save us from the power of death that Satan had over us. And now we are no longer doomed to die but are destined to live in Heaven with God forever.

And we will see all our loved ones there including our pets.

Do dogs go to Heaven?

Yes…

Here In Heaven (note from Sammy)

Here In Heaven
I didn’t want to leave you

I didn’t want to go

But now that I’m in Heaven

I just wanted you to know

I wouldn’t change a thing

There is no place that I’d rather be

It’s so wonderful in Heaven

So please don’t cry for me

I awoke in someone’s loving arms

As they softly called my name

And whispered to me, “Welcome home.

We’re so happy that you came.”

So then I asked them just where I was

Surprised that I could speak!

And when they told me I was in Heaven

I felt peace beyond belief

Suddenly my eyes were opened

And all was plain to see

All the questions I once had asked

Were answered then for me

And everything made perfect sense

As God revealed his plan

The meaning of life was crystal clear

From the day that time began

Everything that is, ever was or every will be

Is here in Heaven now.

It is, always has been and always will be

Except for bad things God does not allow.

Heaven is a beautiful garden

Heaven is a white beach on a crystal blue sea.

It’s anything that you can imagine

And everything you want it to be

Today I played with my favorite toy

The one I left behind

All I did was think of it

And there it was for me to find.

And guess what else I found in Heaven?

Guess who I play with all the time

Yes, you are here in Heaven with me.

You helped me write this rhyme

We’ve been together since I first arrived

And we will always be together.

We talk and laugh and play and sing

And we will love like this forever.

For time doesn’t exist in Heaven

Every day is grand

It’s the beginning and the end

Someday you’ll understand
