Just Imagine Heaven

Just Imagine Heaven

Heavenly images? No one knows what Heaven will look like. One thing you can be sure of is that it will be more beautiful than anything we can imagine.

But all we have for now is our imagination. And that’s OK. Imagination has gotten a bad rap in recent times. But when you really think about it, that’s how our brain works. When we think about anything we see pictures or images in our head.

We actually run movies between our ears all the time. We don’t see things in “list” or “datasheet” view. For example if I ask you to think about what is in your bedroom closet, can you see a picture of the items in your closet? You don’t see a list of items on a piece of paper. We use our imaginations every day in very constructive ways.

I like to imagine my dad in Heaven with Jesus. I have a picture of them together on my wall. I can see it right now between my ears. Is Heaven real? Yes. But then I believe in Jesus.

Jesus said there is a Heaven. Jesus actually left his heavenly kingdom to come down to earth to give us a cure from the disease of sin so that if we just believe what he told us we can spend eternity in Heaven with him…just the way he always intended for us to do.

It started in the Garden of Eden. God originally intended for us to live with him in the Garden and he still intends for us to live with him. Heaven or the Garden of Eden…”a rose by any other name”… Jesus also said he was going to prepare a place for us. Yes and when he comes back he will bring it with him.

It says in Revelation that Jesus will create a new Heaven and a new Earth. That’s good news for me. It’s great to know that no matter what might happen to us here in this brief moment we have on Earth, we will all be back together again in Heaven. No more tears, no more sorrows. No disease, no hunger.

In Memory by Edna Tucker

Written in memory of our dearly beloved father and grandfather, Robert Milton Brown
Whom God called home August 31, 1943

He’s gone. The sunlight doesn’t seem so, bright today.
A haunting sadness lingers in the air.
The old armchair is vacant,
The voice we loved is stilled.
For God has called our loved one over there.
Yet, we cannot help but listen,
For his foot fall on the walk.
And for the gentle tap, tap of his cane.
For it seems his spirit lingers
Around the old home place.
Altho’ we’ll never see him here again.

His last few, days on earth, he prayed so hard to die,
His shrunken body was so wracked with pain.
But, now bathed in the fountain
Of the crystal stream of life,
His body will grow strong and young again.
Just why this life must hold so much
Of heartbreak and of tears,
Is something that we cannot understand.
But, Jesus will reveal it. all to us some happy day,
When we are gathered there at God’s right hand.
We don’t know why we grieve
Because God called his spirit home,
And we were forced to lay him in the tomb.
He has only crossed the valley
That we all must cross someday.
To a paradise where fragrant flowers bloom.
We know that heaven now retains the treasures that it gave,
That earth the lonely casket only keeps.
And we feel the golden sunbeams love to linger round
‘The sacred place where dear old daddy sleeps.
The star of life has sunk from sight
For just a little while.
To rise again upon that blissful shore
Where like a precious jewel
In the crown of life he’s won
T’will shine amid the saints forever more.

Here In Heaven (note from Sammy)

Here In Heaven
I didn’t want to leave you

I didn’t want to go

But now that I’m in Heaven

I just wanted you to know

I wouldn’t change a thing

There is no place that I’d rather be

It’s so wonderful in Heaven

So please don’t cry for me

I awoke in someone’s loving arms

As they softly called my name

And whispered to me, “Welcome home.

We’re so happy that you came.”

So then I asked them just where I was

Surprised that I could speak!

And when they told me I was in Heaven

I felt peace beyond belief

Suddenly my eyes were opened

And all was plain to see

All the questions I once had asked

Were answered then for me

And everything made perfect sense

As God revealed his plan

The meaning of life was crystal clear

From the day that time began

Everything that is, ever was or every will be

Is here in Heaven now.

It is, always has been and always will be

Except for bad things God does not allow.

Heaven is a beautiful garden

Heaven is a white beach on a crystal blue sea.

It’s anything that you can imagine

And everything you want it to be

Today I played with my favorite toy

The one I left behind

All I did was think of it

And there it was for me to find.

And guess what else I found in Heaven?

Guess who I play with all the time

Yes, you are here in Heaven with me.

You helped me write this rhyme

We’ve been together since I first arrived

And we will always be together.

We talk and laugh and play and sing

And we will love like this forever.

For time doesn’t exist in Heaven

Every day is grand

It’s the beginning and the end

Someday you’ll understand

Dogs Do Go To Heaven

Heaven On Earth

Creating Heaven on Earth

We need to be taking care of this planet. It’s not a “green” thing. It’s not a liberal thing. It’s not a “tree-huggy” thing. It’s a Biblical thing.
Some people have the idea that this world is disposable. That when we die, none of the physical attributes of earth will be restored in Heaven. Some people think that we will just be spiritual beings floating around in the cosmos playing our harps and wearing diapers… really? I don’t think so.

In the ancient world, a lot of people, groups, philosophers and such had a prejudice against matter. They thought it was at least inferior if not altogether evil. They felt like the human being was a soul trapped in a body. The body was bad. And when they died, they were at last free of the physical confines of the body and could go to Heaven… or be reincarnated or whatever. They looked down on the physical world as being inferior compared to the spiritual world. This belief was so prevalent, even in the first century that John felt it important to remind everyone in I John that Jesus was indeed fully human because many people of the day were trying to act like Jesus (and/or God) could never lower themselves to become actual physical beings… like Jesus was really just a phantom of some kind.

But God loves this physical world. He created it. In Genesis I God created the world and he said it was good… and it was good. So what happened… what’s the matter with matter? All the matter on this earth has been corrupted. Take our bodies for instance. God loves our bodies. He created human beings and he said, “It is very good.” We may not love our bodies. As I get older I am finding more and more aches and pains. I used to know where they came from but now I don’t even try to figure it out. Some days my body just says “Today I just decided to ache.”

But it’s not just us. All of matter is corrupted. Even nature is all screwed up. We have animals devouring other animals. We have all kinds of diseases. Tornados, hurricanes, earthquakes, famine, floods and on and on.

But it won’t always be that way.

When God brings the new Heaven on Earth, everything will be restored the way it was meant to be… the way it was in The Garden. Yes, that is right “Heaven on Earth”. That’s what is says in Revelation. “I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.” Revelation 21:2 God is coming down here to live with us again. That is why he created us in the first place… so he could live here on earth with us.

And not only will the new Heaven on Earth be our home, it will be our Kingdom. And we will rule over the Earth with God as God had originally intended. In Genesis 1 it says, “God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”” In Revelation 5 it says, “You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.”

But what does it mean to rule over the Earth and the animals? Remember that everything in the Kingdom of God is upside down. It’s the upside down Kingdom. The whole book of Revelation is about how God subdued the world by using, not “Babylon power” or “power over” but by using “Lamb power” or “power under”. That is shown is Revelation with the “Secret of the scroll”. Everyone was crying because no one could be found who was worthy to open the scroll. No one but the “Lamb” who had become worthy but self sacrifice and by “coming under” to conquer the evil one on Calvary. That is how we are to rule over the Earth… by sacrifice and by coming under the rulers and powers and dominions, not only in Heaven but if we are to live as Kingdom people now, we should be sacrificing for the Earth and the animals now instead of treating them as we do so much of the time. God created this Earth and the animals and he said they are good. Everything in the world is corrupted now but God is not giving up on his creation. He will restoring everything to it’s perfected state just as it was meant to be when he restores Heaven on Earth.

We Will Reign Over the Animals in Heaven

Animals In Heaven?

In Genesis, God creates all the animals on the earth and then he creates Mankind in his own image. He blesses us and tells us that we are to rule or reign over all the animals on earth. In Revelation, God tells us that we are to reign over all the animals in Heaven.

Before the fall, this was a beautiful thing. Ruling and/or reigning over the animals in the “Garden” didn’t resemble anything like the animal ruling that we have on the earth today. But someday, when Jesus comes back, we will have a “new”(restored) earth  and we will once again have reign over all the animals in Heaven.

But that is not to say that we will be dictators as such over the animals in Heaven. To understand what God actually had in mind and still has in mind today, we need to take a look at what it means to “reign” as we find it explained in Revelation. John tells us that when the earth is restored to it’s former glory (Heaven) after Jesus comes back, we will once again reign over all the animals (just one more reason to believe that there will be animals in Heaven). It actually says that we will reign with Christ.

How does Christ reign? You have to remember that everything in the Kingdom is opposite of what we think here in the present world. That’s why Jesus’ Kingdom is sometimes referred to as the “Upside down” Kingdom. The first shall be last. The master becomes the servant. Jesus even washed the feet of the one he knew would betray him. We think of ruling others by using force or power over them. Christ always conquered by using power under. He defeated Satan by submitting to the power of the world and allowed himself to be put to death in a very horrific manner.

In Revelation, we see all of the inhabitants of the Heavenly Realms frantically searching for someone worthy enough to open the Holy scrolls. Finally, the only one found who is worthy is the Lamb. The Lamb is the one who laid down his life for mankind. The lamb is the one who defeated Satan and death. The Lamb is the ultimate servant.

And the Lamb is also the one who will reign over Heaven. And will reign with him. But we will reign by serving and caring. We will be serving and caring for all the animals.

And if we are “Kingdom” people now, that is what we should also be doing now. Being Kingdom people means being a servant and caring for others more than for ourselves. That means we should be thinking now about how we treat this earth. We should be serving and taking care of not only each other but we should be serving and taking care of everything on this earth…. not just the animals but also the trees, the air, the oceans… everything. That’s not a tree huggy, green thing… it’s a Biblical thing.

I Admire the Faith of the Atheist

Faith of the Atheist

I know the whole idea of being an atheist is that you don’t believe in anything but actually that is a belief in itself. The faith of the atheist is really quite astounding to me. The atheist actually has more faith than the believer in my humble opinion. You see, I believe that there is a God and that he created the earth so that he could live here with us here on earth. I believe that he did come to earth and died for my (our) sins and that because I believe in him I will go to Heaven when I die. I have faith in that belief.

The atheist, on the other hand believes that there is no God and that this life is all there is and when this life is over, we just … stop existing. The atheist has faith in this belief.

If you really think about it. What do I have to lose by believing in God and Heaven. I’m not really risking anything.  If I’m right, I get to go to Heaven. If I’m wrong then I will just … stop existing. I’m not any worse off than the atheist because I believed something that wasn’t.

The atheist, on the other hand is risking not going to Heaven if they are wrong. It seems to me that the atheist has to have a lot more faith in their belief than I do. The atheist has a lot more to lose if they are wrong than the believer in God and Heaven.

I dare you to ask God to show you that he is real. The best proof that I know of that God is real is the way he changes people’s lives. But he won’t force himself upon you. You have to ask him. Again… I dare you… just ask him to show you that he is real. Just say, “Hey God, if you are real, let me know you are there – show me a sign.” I dare you!

What have you got to lose?

Do Dogs Go To Heaven?… Of Course!… But Not Just Dogs…

do dogs go to heaven?

When asked, “Do dogs go to Heaven?”, Evangelist Billy Graham quipped back very assuredly, “God will prepare everything for our perfect happiness in Heaven, and if it takes my dog being there, I believe he’ll be there.”
That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”

I feel very confident that all our animals will be restored when Jesus brings down the new Heaven and the new Earth. They are God’s pets too. He created all the animals and said, “It is good.”
You are very correct in stating that it is most important to make sure that we are there also to see them. The animal will be restored without having to believe or repent. But for us, it is important to be rightly related to God which is very simple… we just need to trust that Jesus came to fulfill the law that we are not capable of obeying completely and we will be accounted as righteous in God’s eyes just as it was for Abraham.

Some have tried to say that dogs and other animals will not be in Heaven because that lack a “soul”. I don’t believe that to be true but it is a mute point in any case. Eventually God will redeem all of His creation. Everything in this world is presently corrupted and in a continuous state of decay. Nothing is as God intended in the beginning.  But someday God will restore all of creation back to it’s original glory. Heaven will be right here on earth. I don’t really believe in a “Pet Heaven” but I believe in Heaven with pets.

Revelation 21:1

A New Heaven and a New Earth
1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea (sea, in this context is anther word for chaos). 2And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. 3And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them,…

God doesn’t give up on His real estate… or his pets either. All of the animals will be here when the earth is restored to it’s former grandeur.  Of course, we too will be restored in our new bodies.

Romans 8

20 Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse. But with eager hope, 21 the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay. 22 For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children,[j] including the new bodies he has promised us.

What do you believe?

Don’t believe in Heaven?

To sum it up, the Bible tells us there is a Heaven.

Don’t believe in the Bible?

To Sum this up, Jesus believed in the Bible (the old Testament of course).

Don’t believe in Jesus?
To sum this up, if Jesus really conquered death and came back to life after being killed (which is very well documented), shouldn’t we be listening to what he said and believing what he believed?

Well if you believe the Bible, God promises to care for all the animals forever. What’s interesting about this is that they will be saved and raised to Heaven without having to be cleansed of sin because they are not actually capable of sinning. The animals never rebelled against God because they wanted to “be equal to God, knowing good and evil.” In Genesis, it states that God created the all the animals and “It was good”. Whether you believe that the creation story is to be taken literally or that it is a simple analogy of how and why God brought the world into being; the Bible is the inspired word of God. I have to admit that some of it is hardly inspiring to me (especially in the Old Testament) but if Jesus says it was inspired, who am I to argue.

We, on the other hand must be redeemed and made clean from sin before we can be in God’s presence.

Pets in Heaven? Yes, Your Pet will be waiting for you in Heaven when you get there… if you get there that is.

But it’s really not that hard to make sure that you will be there.
All you have to do is believe that God came to earth as Jesus, and died for our sins so that ” whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.”

You Died and were Raised with Christ & are Hidden with Him in Heaven

Note from Barry: we have been raised with Christ and are in Heaven right now… not the you that is on earth… but the perfect you that God sees in Heaven (and your beloved pets are with you!).
Forget about the time issues that affect us here on earth.

Raised with Christ

Words of the Apostle Paul from the New Testament:

Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding[c] being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your[a] life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

When you accepted Christ as your Savior, your old sinful self died. It died 2000 years ago when Jesus died. Your new self was raised up with Jesus at the resurrection and is NOW hidden with Christ in Heaven at the right hand (or power position) of God. We didn’t do anything to earn this. We are given this only by God’s grace and mercy and are only asked to embrace this fact with faith that it is now true. If we only know that this is true, we should be able to change our behaviors to be more like the perfect us that now exists in Heaven by focusing on the things of Heaven instead of the things of this world.

Do You Believe In Heaven?

Do you believe in Heaven?

Do you believe in fairy tales too?…

…or how ‘bout mythology?

How can an intelligent person believe in Heaven?

If you believe in Jesus, you almost have to believe in Heaven.

But that’s the problem…how could any really intelligent person believe in Jesus. At least not the Jesus they try to sell you at church. I mean, come on, talk about your fairy tales. How could you possibly believe that God decided to leave his place in Heaven and come to Earth to be born in a stable, live as a commoner among us, teach us about love and then allow us to kill him in the most gruesome manner just to show us the greatest love of all? Are you serious?
Well, it’s right there in the Bible people would always tell me.

Well so what? Isn’t that just a book of fairy tales? Anything can and does happen in the Bible. You’ve got a flood covering the whole world. Nine hundred year old people. A man who parts the sea. Another man who survives living in the belly of a whale for 3 days…I could go on and on.

But all of that is in the “Old Testament”. We don’t really know when the old testament was written.

But I was astonished to find out that the “New Testament” (the story of Jesus), was written within 3 to 37 years of Jesus’ death. Which means it can’t be a fairy tale or even a legend. Too many eye witnesses were still alive for someone to get away with making it all up. And anyway, what would be the motivation for making it up. The main followers of Jesus were scared to death after he was killed and were in hiding. Do you think they made up a story about Jesus rising up from the grave because they suddenly decided they wanted to be martyrs and get nailed to a cross also? It just doesn’t make sense.
Could it be that Jesus really did come back to life again after being horribly executed? Could it be that He really did appear to over 5000 people over a 40 day period? That might have given the disciples the courage to come out of hiding and start spreading the Word that Jesus had given them…the Word that has amazingly spread to every corner of the globe.
The truth is that the New Testament is one of the most widely authenticated documents in the world. And as for historical accuracy, the New Testament is much more reliable than many other documents that we take for historical fact. For instance, the historical accounts of Alexander the Great were written 500 years after his death. We know that some elements of his story have been exaggerated, yet we accept these accounts as fact.
Many people say you have a lot of faith to believe in Jesus. I don’t really think so. Knowing what I know now, I’d say you’d have to have a lot of faith not to believe in Jesus. In fact, you have a lot more faith than me if you are willing to bet this life and (if you are wrong) the rest of eternity on the fact that Jesus was not God who came to Earth in human form to show us how to love one another.
Jesus believed in Heaven.
Do you?
How can an intelligent person believe in Heaven?
That’s what I used to ask.
Now I ask,

“How can an intelligent person

not believe in Heaven?”

Jesus with white German Shepherd

We’ll all be back together after all.

We’ll all be back together after all.

We’ll all be back together after all.

This is a song about how we will all be back together after all…

You know I used to worry about one thing then another
And what was going to happen after all this life was over
Would I ever see my wife again, my family or my friends
Or would I spend my afterlife in dreaded loneliness

After all my trials and troubles
After all my fears
After all my doubts and worries
After all my tears
After all my years on this world
Where was I to go
And what’s the point of living…after all.

Then I found out about Jesus
And how He gave His life for me
How He left to prepare a place
And I no longer fear
I know we’ll be together after all.

After all my trials and troubles
After all my fears
After all my doubts and worries
After all my tears
After all my years on this world
I know where I will go.
We’ll all be back together after all.

After all the tears
After all the years
We’ll all be back together after all.

After all is said
After all is done
After all’s forgiven
We’ll all be back together after all.

The focus passage of this sermon can be hard to embrace. It speaks of a narrow door, few entering the door and the fact that the door will close. Traditionally this has been interpreted as meaning “if you believe in Jesus, you are saved. If not, you are damned, no ifs, ands or buts.” Heaven for those who believe hell for those who don’t. But is this truly what Jesus was teaching about salvation? What can we say about salvation and who does enter the narrow door. There are five considerations:

1. Jesus is the only way into the Kingdom.
Religions don’t save. Good works don’t save. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. There are not may ways. The door is not wide. Some might think that this is intolerant, but whatever a person believes is narrow. All beliefs are singular. Even if you believe that all religions lead to God, this belief is just as narrow as any other. Jesus was saying that He is the only way to the Father, not just one of the good guys doing good things, but God himself here on earth.

2. Jesus is the light of the world.
The man Jesus incarnated this light, but even more so, wherever light is found He is the light that is found. Whatever light people have is from Jesus. God is working to give light to all. To the extent people are seeing the light of truth; it is Jesus working in them.

3. God wants all to be saved.
God’s dream is for every person to participate in the Kingdom. God is at work in every human heart, trying to get them to open up to Him.

4. Many in the Bible end up in the Kingdom who didn’t consciously know Jesus.
In the Old Testament some outside lineage of Jacob like Melchezedik, Jethro, Rahab, and Job were considered participants in God’s Kingdom. They were sinners in need of Jesus as much as anyone else.

5. Assurance of entering the Kingdom at the end of the age is given only to those who are now living in the Kingdom.
God is working in all people, and therefore there is hope for the entire world, but the only assurance is for those who are in a real relationship with Christ that is those who are being saved now. The New Testament only celebrates the death of Christians. With regard to everyone else we say, “I don’t know.”

In fact, the New Testament doesn’t focus on escaping destruction at end of age. It focuses on getting right with God now, being saved now, and entering the Kingdom now. Instead of, “Will I be saved, live in the Kingdom, or dance in the love of God in the future? We must ask, am I doing this now? If you are, you don’t have to worry about the end.
